Workshops
While in library school, I helped to develop a series of workshops co-sponsored by the GSLIS Tech Lab and ASIS&T@Simmons. Because of my dual role—I worked at the Tech Lab and was involved with the ASIS&T chapter—I took on the role of workshop coordinator. The series was introduced in Spring 2006, and was continued and expanded for Fall 2006, Spring 2007 and Fall 2007. I instructed some of these workshops, and have linked the materials I developed below. (If you are interested in looking at materials developed by other instructors for other workshops, please visit the
Tech Lab Download Center.)

Selected library school course work
A New Index to "The Bulletin of the Congregational Library"
In spring 2007 I completed LIS 419—Subject Analysis, with Candy Schwartz. As a part of my coursework, I undertook a project to update and digitize an index to a periodical produced by a small, special library in Boston. Read more here.
Unauthorized Cataloging, Underground Circulation:
Polish Libraries During the Nazi Occupation of World War II
For LIS 439—Preservation Management (Sping '07), I wrote a paper that looks at Polish libraries during World War II. While the paper does talk about the destruction of libraries and books, the main focus is on how Polish librarians kept doing library work during the occupation, and how that work was a form of resistance. I personally think this is one of the best and most interesting pieces of writing I produced in graduate school. Take a look at "Unauthorized Cataloging, Underground Circulation" (186 KB PDF).
I wrote this paper for LIS 450 - Organization and Management of Public Libraries (Spring '06). It's a short review of some literature on the effects of technology on library staff, including a look at two training programs. At the end there are also a few bits on staff development in a more general sense, including a very brief look at how coaching can be a useful tactic in staff development.
