Grown-up Librarians

Resume

I am currently the Public Relations/Instruction Librarian at the Loyola/Notre Dame Library in Baltimore, MD. The LND Library serves two separate colleges: Loyola College in Maryland and College of Notre Dame of Maryland. When wearing my public relations hat, I plan special events and receptions in the library's community spaces. When wearing my instruction librarian hat, I staff the reference desk and teach students how to use library resources.

In library school, I was the Lead Technology Reference Assistant at the GSLIS Tech Lab, and the Assistant to the Director of GSLIS Curriculum and Communications. Prior to that, I worked in athletic ticket sales, retail and as a copyeditor and proofreader. Please download my resume (PDF) for details.

A list of presentations, workshops and library school coursework can be found in the LIS portfolio.

GSLIS Website Work

In Fall 2007, I acted as project manager for the first phase of the GSLIS IA Project. I worked with a group of staff and students who did usability testing in order to gather information that will be used to develop a new information architecture for the two main GSLIS websites (linked below).

In summer 2007, I created the design and layout for a web-based supplement to InfoLink.

In the Fall of 2006, I used FeedBurner to set up RSS feeds and e-mail subscriptions on the LIS Community Events Calendar and GSLIS Course Schedules.

During the spring and summer of 2006, I worked on developing the content and structure of the New Students Community, a site on the myGSLIS intranet with the goal of helping incoming and new students acclimate to GSLIS, Simmons and Boston. The site pulls together information from various sources, most of which are departmental websites at Simmons. The site debuted at the end of the summer.

InfoLink

While in library school, as part of my work with the GSLIS Publications Team, I wrote for InfoLink, our newsletter. Here are my larger contributions:

April 2007 (PDF): Wrote main article profiling four recent graduates' varied experiences in searching for a job, contributed write-up of a mini-conference hosted by the Simmons chapter of the Massachusetts School Library Association.

February 2007 (PDF): Authored main article on use of blogs and wikis at Simmons GSLIS, coordinated models for a geeky t-shirt photo feature, wrote profile of Cindy Fisher, Dean's Fellow for Technology Support.

November 2006 (PDF): Snapshot profile of Linnea Johnson, GSLIS assistant director of information technology.

March 2006 (PDF): Co-authored a piece on student bloggers.
